Dr Penny Dash

Chair of North West London Integrated Care System

As chair of North West London ICS, Penny is responsible for improving the health of ~2.4 million people, reducing inequalities in health, and ensuring high quality and efficient services within a ~£6bn budget. She has worked as a practising doctor, a senior manager, and an advisor/consultant to a wide range of organisations across the healthcare industry, from health systems, payers and providers, to Pharmaceutical and Medtech companies, to investors.

Penny spent the last 20 years at McKinsey where, as a Senior Partner, she led McKinsey’s healthcare practice across Europe. Prior to joining McKinsey, Penny was Head of Strategy at the UK Department of Health. Penny was also Vice Chairman of the King’s Fund from 2006–2015, and a Non-Executive Director on the board of Monitor, the Regulator of Foundation Trusts, from 2004–2006.

Richard Smale

Richard has had a diverse career within the NHS. Having initially undertaken the graduate financial management training programme and spent 10 years thereafter working in various finance roles, he has held senior roles in general management, information technology, and strategy and transformation. He has worked for both provider and commissioning organisations, and spent a couple of years with a large consultancy organisation. Much of his time over the last 15 years has been working at the system level and he is currently the Executive Director of Strategy and Transformation for Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire ICB.

Paul has a wealth of experience in strategic and financial leadership in the NHS. Since 1994 he has held a wide variety of Board level posts in both Wales and England, including 16 years as Director of Finance, 5 years as Chief Executive and 3 years as Director of Strategy. He has also worked in health organisations including Acute, Mental Health, Specialised Services, Public Health, and the Welsh Assembly Government. Paul is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and holds a MBA from Cardiff University, specialising in Lean and Supply Chain Management.

Sally Rickard

Sally first joined the NHS in 2004 when she worked in Service Improvement and Commissioning, spending 13 years in transformation of services. Sally has led the Wessex Cancer Alliance as Managing Director since its inception in 2016.

She is responsible for leadership of cancer health service improvement across Wessex, implementing a strategic programme to reduce premature mortality across Wessex. Sally published the cancer 5-year strategic vision for Wessex and research on early detection and translation of learning to other clinical areas at a national level.

George Coxon

Highlights from George’s varied career include roles as: Director of the Devon Care Home Collaborative (DCHC) supporting over 300 care homes in the Devon Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint National chair of the MHNA (Mental Health Nurse Association) from 2011 to 2017; Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) ‘Associate’ from September 2018 up to the advent of the Covid pandemic in 2020, leading work on developing the Institute of Care Home Excellence and introducing a South West Care Collaborative. In the NHS, George worked in numerous clinical roles, as an acute and specialist commissioner, and as a NHS senior commissioner.

Crystal Dennis

Digital Access to Services at Home (D@SH) is an innovative digital transformation service at the heart of NHS Dorset’s plan to deliver care closer to home.

Crystal has pioneered the innovative approach that aligns Medtech organisations, clinical leadership, commissioners, and patient groups to successfully implement a range of digitally enabled service changes. Crystal, her team, and extensive collaborators are actively changing the care landscape and ‘Digitising Patient Care: BP@Home’ was a 2022 HSJ Award finalist.

She has a wealth of insight to share about engaging clinicians, patients, communities, and innovators to create solutions that are adopted at scale.
