Transforming healthcare symposium 2024: Unlocking the future of NHS–industry collaboration

A symposium for UK market access leaders

The healthcare landscape is continuously evolving, and the need for effective collaboration between the NHS and industry partners has never been more critical. This year, our annual UK market access symposium is designed to address the common challenges faced in these partnerships and provide practical guidance for achieving successful outcomes.

We invite market access leaders to join us and our guest speakers for our transforming healthcare symposium on Tuesday 5th November 2024 in Manchester. Our UK market access specialists will be joined by guest speakers who have all held senior and executive-level positions at local, regional, and national levels in the NHS, and who bring a wealth of experience and actionable insights to enable change at all levels of the health and social care system.

Key learning objectives

The symposium offers market access leaders the opportunity to explore the following themes:

  • Implementing change: Understand how to design and execute successful change programmes within the NHS that align with your product or service value proposition
  • Overcoming barriers: Identify common barriers to project implementation in the NHS and explore strategies to overcome them efficiently
  • Aligning value propositions: Learn how to align your offerings with NHS priorities to resonate with key stakeholders and drive mutually beneficial outcomes
  • Government impact: Gain insights into how Labour government policies will affect the NHS and what strategic adjustments may be necessary in the immediate and long term
  • Influencing stakeholders: Enhance your ability to access and influence key national, regional, and local decision-makers
  • Specialised commissioning updates: Hear about the latest specialised commissioning developments and their implications for your products and services

For your convenience and to help make the symposium as green as possible, we will not be printing resources for the event. Instead, please find all the information you will need in our virtual resource library.

The keynote session will explore how industry and the NHS can better collaborate and find more effective synergies. We will explore key drivers and barriers to change within the NHS, the roles within the NHS that facilitate change, and how industry can support NHS transformation. Attendees will have the opportunity to put their questions to our speaker and take part in the wider discussion.

Network with other attendees, our guest speakers, and the Mtech Access team.

11.15am – Session 2: Delivering successful market access in alignment with NHS priorities

Guest speaker: Dr Raj Patel MBE (Former Senior Medical Director in NHS England, NHS Transformation Consultant)

Building on the themes of the keynote, our second session will focus on strategies for motivating change in NHS practices. We will discuss challenges that industry and the NHS face in implementing best practices and driving transformation. Join us as we explore the shift of services across acute and community care, and discuss what Pharma and Medtech companies can do to ensure product uptake in the most appropriate setting. This session will also include an active discussion and opportunities for attendees to put their questions to the speaker.

12.00pm – Session 3: Specialised commissioning and future transformation plans

Guest speakers: Patrick McGinley (Head of Costing and Service Line Reporting, NHS Trust), and Gail Fortes Mayer (ICB Associate Director of Strategic Commissioning)

In this panel discussion, we will explore the hot topic of specialised commissioning. We will take a look at the latest guidance and the panel will comment on the challenges of real-world implementation compared with theoretical plans. We will also explore how the transformation of specialised commissioning will impact industry interactions with the NHS, and how the new government direction might impact this commissioning policy. Once again, attendees will be invited to put their questions to our panellists.

12.40pm – Lunch and networking

Network with other attendees, our guest speakers, and the Mtech Access team over lunch.

1.30/2.15pm – Breakout workshop 1: Influencing at a national and regional level

Guest speakers: Dr Raj Patel MBE (Former Senior Medical Director in NHS England, NHS Transformation Consultant), and Professor Hilary Garratt CBE (ICB NHS Non-Executive Director, Accredited Senior Executive Coach and Mentor)

Breakout workshop 1 will explore proactive ways in which industry can access and engage with NHS England regional and ICB decision-makers. We will explore strategies for driving transformation on a larger scale.

Guest Speakers: Patrick McGinley (Head of Costing and Service Line Reporting, NHS Trust), and Gail Fortes Mayer (ICB Associate Director of Strategic Commissioning)

Breakout workshop 2 will focus on how finances flow through an ICB and explore how the NHS payment scheme and changes in funding flows may impact how your product is reimbursed. Our speakers will offer insights into the financial performance measures facing NHS leaders and the financial levers you can address in your value propositions and strategies.

Our final session will focus on new Labour government health policies and the potential implications for NHS–industry collaboration and engagement. We will discuss the impact of recent changes and the likely direction of new policies. The audience will be invited again to put their questions to our speakers.

3.45pm – Summary and closing remarks
