Specialised services have long been the subject of debate around their place in Integrated Care Systems (ICSs), who will run them and how will they be funded. On 31st May 2022 NHS England published a Roadmap for integrating specialised services within ICSs. This publication provides much-needed clarity on how the integration of specialised services will evolve, as we approach the 1st July threshold of ICS formalisation.
Stratifying services according to when they might be devolved to Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) to lead is a big part of the puzzle, but gaps still exist around the budgets and logistics. There are obvious considerations within this around provider collaboratives, and understanding the impact on existing pathways is essential for our clients working in these areas.
