Introducing
David Thorne
Director of NHS Insights & Interaction
Originally a nurse, David has occupied board-level positions within both NHS hospitals and commissioning organisations. He was previously the Chief Executive of Newcastle West CCG and twice won CCG Manager of the Year awards.
David is an authority on commissioning, NHS funding systems and patient pathway redesign. His system redesign work ranges in scale from product-specific local care pathways to designing the original NHS 111 national demonstration site. He also has ten years’ senior market access employed experience in pharma and medtech with engagement in some of the most influential UK product launches of both sectors.
He continues to have direct lead input to NHS transformation as a Chair and non-executive director of two innovative networks of primary care practices.
David has 12 years’ experience providing consultancy advice to almost 200 health care companies and NHS organisations across Europe. This work is conducted personally and through a UK retinue of HCP associates comprehensively covering roles, professions and geography. His network is such that he can actively engage with key NHS clinical and managerial figures and, as a result, he is a retained advisor to BIVDA.
David is well-placed to provide customised NHS insights advice, training, mentorship and policy analysis across product, disease area and company perspectives. This can be broad in theme or highly-focused upon value proposition detail. He is an experienced event chair and has facilitated multiple advisory boards, focus groups and pathway redesign workshops.
Few people have worked in such significant senior roles in the NHS, pharma and the wider health care field. David is able to understand, translate, predict and apply the complex current UK health economy in ways that have built an enviable reputation for connecting that change to commercial opportunity.
